Robert Spellman watercolor illustration of an imaginary hydroelectric construction project.

Peace Through Industry ~ airbrushed watercolor on paper

Illustration

Here is another one of the early duotone covers of Hydro Review showing an implausible combination of elements in a hydroelectric project. (This kind of artistic license often vexed the magazine's engineers.) One of the influences on this montage style was the twentienth century American pop artist Roy Lichtenstein. Some of his drawings are evocations of a grand era that celebrated early twentieth century American industrial might. I took the idea for the title from his “Peace Through Chemistry” drawings.
